5 tips for maintaining your pool

With a pool in your garden, you are guaranteed hours of swimming fun during the summer. Isn't it wonderful to take a refreshing dip? However, to keep the pool water as clear as possible, your pool does require some maintenance. But don't worry, with our 5 tips, it's not that difficult and you can even turn pool maintenance into a fun activity.

5 tips for maintaining your pool

Tip 1: Use a pool cover when you're not swimming

When you're not swimming, it's best to cover the pool. This prevents dirt, such as leaves, twigs, and even frogs, from getting into the pool.

What's more, a good pool cover will save you money on your energy bill. Covering the pool keeps the water warm for longer and means the pool heater has to work less. Good for the environment and good for your wallet!

Tip 2: Test the pool water regularly

To keep your pool clean, it is important to find the right balance between the amount of chlorine in the water, the alkalinity (TA), the hardness of the water, and the acidity (pH). Test these values at least once a week with a good tester, preferably every day if you swim daily, for example in the summer. Only by keeping a close eye on all values and adjusting them where necessary will your pool be free of bacteria and viruses.

Tip 2: Test the pool water regularly

Tip 3: Rinse off before swimming

Teach yourself and your (grand)children to rinse off before taking a refreshing dip in the pool. This prevents loose skin flakes or sunscreen from ending up in the pool water. With fewer dirt particles in the pool, you will also use fewer pool products.

Tip 4: Add fresh water regularly and clean the pool filter

Research shows that it is advisable to change part of the pool water every week. Otherwise, the salt concentration in the water will become too high. Fortunately, this can be done easily by cleaning the pool filter. Dirt accumulates in this filter faster than you think. Backwashing removes all inactive chlorine from the water, disposes of the dirt, reduces the pressure in the filter, and removes some of the pool water. Refill and you're done!

Tip 5: Vacuuming!

It may not be your favorite chore, but the pool also needs to be vacuumed regularly to remove (coarse) dirt. Fortunately, there are now several robot vacuum cleaners on the market that will do this job for you automatically, and with great pleasure. All walls and the bottom are thoroughly cleaned with a robot vacuum cleaner. By vacuuming regularly, you remove most of the dirt particles from the pool. This way, you can always swim in clear water!

For your information: Leisure Pools has developed various smart technologies to keep pool maintenance to a minimum. For example, our pools are finished with an Aqua Guard Smart Color Coating. This is very smooth and non-porous, preventing algae and bacteria from settling in the walls. In addition, the coating has a strong antibacterial effect, killing a large number of bacteria in the pool water. But that's not all, because our self-cleaning roller shutter niche collects all the dirt in the roller shutter box and cleans it automatically.
